Pet product notes can look complete when the same detail appears in several places. A product image may mention a material. A chat message may name a component. A sample file can include a short ingredient phrase. Unless the record shows where each detail came from, repetition can be mistaken for confirmation. For sourcing pet products from China, a stated source gives a product detail a visible origin without turning that detail into a decision.
The record does not need to answer every question. It needs to show which source supplied the words, image or file reference, and which details remain unknown.

What a stated source means
A stated source is the place where a record detail appears. It may be a file name, a message link, a supplied image, a document page or an attachment. The source can support a simple record entry such as material wording shown in file MAT-01. It does not make the wording complete, accurate, applicable or final.
This distinction keeps a record close to the material it received. If a source supplies only a photo, the record should say photo. If a source supplies a short phrase, the record should retain the phrase. It should not add a product description, a supplier identity or a use claim that the source does not state.
The record has a strict boundary. it does not define, identify, interpret, classify, recommend, select, evaluate, engage, approve, validate, verify, certify, determine, predict, guarantee, source, develop, design, engineer, specify, inspect, test, accept, reject, release, price, quote, calculate, estimate, compare, negotiate, contract, pay, buy, order, produce, ship, import, clear, advise or decide a pet product, sourcing agent, supplier, company, material, component, ingredient, sample, specification, packaging, quality, defect, safety, animal food, compliance, certificate, test, quantity, moq, capacity, lead time, date, cost, fee, commission, price, payment, tax, duty, contract, carrier, route, customs action, delivery, sales, performance, legal position or commercial outcome.
Product details that can be preserved
A product brief can preserve the product name or description that appears in a supplied source. A material reference can preserve stated material wording or a source image. A component reference can preserve a received item name, photo or attachment location. An ingredient reference can preserve a supplied phrase or source file without deciding whether the phrase describes a product or an animal food.
The same record can show that two sources use different wording. For example, a product brief might use one name while a sample note uses another. The record can hold both entries and link them to their original location. It does not need to decide which one controls.
The product sourcing page can sit beside the packet as an internal site reference. It does not replace the exact source behind a product detail.
Give each source a stable label
A stable label makes it easier to locate source material later. PET-01 can point to a product image. MAT-02 can point to a material reference. CMP-03 can point to a component attachment. ING-04 can point to a file that contains supplied ingredient wording. The label is only an index. It does not add a conclusion to the source.
Next to the label, retain the original filename, link or message location. Record a received date only if the source shows one. Record a sender only if the source names one. If the earlier history is missing, use an unknown field. An unknown field is more useful than an assumed source because it makes the gap visible.
A record can also show a source relationship without creating a new fact. PET-01 linked to CMP-03 in message MSG-05 points a reader back to supplied material. It does not say what the component is or whether the link settles any product point.
A practical record layout
The following table is a filing layout for source material. It is not a product specification, supplier review, sample approval, ingredient assessment, safety review, compliance decision or commercial instruction.
| Discussion area | Source record label | What may be preserved verbatim | Source location | Status field |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Product brief | PB-01 | Supplied product name and brief text | Original file or message | Source known or unknown |
| Pet product reference | PET-01 | File name, image reference and stated product wording | Folder or message link | Source known or unknown |
| Material reference | MAT-01 | Supplied material wording, image or attachment identifier | Folder or attachment | Source known or unknown |
| Component reference | CMP-01 | Supplied component wording or item identifier | Attachment or message | Source known or unknown |
| Ingredient reference | ING-01 | Stated ingredient wording or source file location | Folder or attachment | Source known or unknown |
| Sample record | SMP-01 | Sample identifier, received date shown and related file reference | Sample log or message | Source known or unknown |
| Packaging record | PKG-01 | Carton, insert, artwork or package image reference | Folder or attachment | Source known or unknown |
| Document reference | DOC-01 | Document name, issuer shown and stated destination | Original document | Source known or unknown |
| Unknown source | UNK-01 | A literal note that the item origin is not recorded | Record sheet | Unknown |
The record becomes clearer when it keeps a stated detail with its source rather than copying the detail into a summary. It can show a missing source without trying to repair the missing history.
Keep samples and packaging separate
A sample record can preserve its identifier, received image, message reference or attachment location. It should remain separate from a product reference even when both concern the same described item. The product development and samples page can appear as an internal site reference. It does not turn a sample record into a sample, quality, acceptance or release decision.
Packaging material also needs its own source trail. A carton artwork file, an insert image or a package-text screenshot can be retained as a packaging record. It can link to a product record where the source makes that link visible. It does not decide whether the packaging source is complete, suitable, safe or ready for any use.
Keep animal-food and document sources separate
Some pet product discussions include a source that uses animal-food-related wording. That source can be preserved as a separate record. It cannot be treated as a determination that a product has any particular animal food, ingredient, safety, label or compliance status.
The FDA animal food business material is public U.S. animal food business information. It is included only as a limited information category. It does not decide whether a specific pet product is animal food, what applies to it or how any product should be handled in any market.
A document reference can likewise identify a received document name, issuer shown and destination wording. The Common Export Documents material and Special Documents material are public U.S. export-document information. They do not determine a document, destination requirement, customs action or transaction process for a pet product.
common-export-documents material is u.s. export-document information. special-documents material is u.s. export-document information. fda-animal-food-business material is u.s. animal food business information.
Preserve unknown sources
Unknown source is a useful category when material is present but its history is not. It can cover a screenshot without an original link, a component image with no sender, an ingredient phrase copied into a note with no attachment or a file that lacks a visible date.
For example: Unknown source: product image saved in project folder; original sender, date and related product brief not recorded. This tells the reader what exists now and what the record does not show. It does not invent a product name, material, ingredient, source or date.
Unknown entries protect the line between received material and a later explanation. A neat summary can obscure that line. A literal unknown-source entry keeps it visible.
Prepare a discussion packet
A discussion packet can begin with a source index, then retain product briefs, pet product references, material references, component references, ingredient references, sample records, packaging records, document references, destination sources and unknown-source entries. Stable labels make cross-references easier to follow without changing source wording.
The quality control page can be included as an internal site reference. It does not convert the source packet into quality, inspection, acceptance, release or commercial advice.
For clarity, product brief, pet product specification, material reference, component reference, ingredient reference, sample record, packaging record, supplier-search record, document reference, destination source, shipment-plan record, payment/contract record and unknown source are source records.
The Yes Supplier boundary
Qualified buyer, agent, supplier, legal, regulatory, compliance, tax, accounting, finance, insurance, customs, logistics, freight, carrier, warehouse, destination-market and marketplace professionals must decide actual matters. A source-record packet does not assign their responsibilities or decide a product, animal food, safety, compliance, document or commercial matter for them.
Yes Supplier only organizes stated source records and does not provide pet-product, agent, supplier, product, quality, safety, legal, animal-food, compliance, fee, payment, customs, cost, transport, delivery, sales, performance or outcome advice. The role is limited to preserving the supplied source material and its stated gaps.
Frequently asked questions
Can an ingredient phrase be copied into a product description?
It can be listed as an ingredient reference with its original source location. This article does not interpret the phrase or decide a product, animal food, safety or compliance matter.
What if several sources use different product names?
Preserve each name in the record that supplied it and link each entry to the original material. The record should not decide which wording controls.
What belongs in an unknown-source entry?
An unknown-source entry can state what was received, where it is stored and which original-source details are absent. It should not guess the sender, date, product connection or purpose of the material.
A stated source does not answer a pet product question by itself. It gives the discussion a place to begin with the material that actually exists and the details that remain unknown.
