A product brief documents sources rather than decisions
A buyer product brief can preserve a supplied product name, image, message or attachment. A buyer reference can identify another file or message. An OEM-manufacturing reference can retain the exact supplied phrase, attachment or message location. Product, design, development, tooling, material and component sources can remain separate entries in the same index.
An OEM phrase beside a product image does not establish an OEM manufacturing arrangement. A design file does not decide a design. A development note does not decide product development. A tooling attachment does not decide tooling. The record can preserve a visible relationship only when source material states one. If the material does not state a relationship, the relationship should remain unknown.

Start with received buyer product material
Start with the material that names or shows the requested item. It may be a buyer product brief, product image, message or attachment. Give it a stable label such as BPR-01, then retain the original filename, folder location or message link. The label gives a reader a path back to the source. It does not add a product specification, design, development, tooling, material or manufacturing detail.
If a source visibly includes a sender or date, retain the field as displayed. If it does not, record unknown. Do not add an OEM manufacturing arrangement, supplier, component, quality, safety, compliance, price or company name to complete the record.
The product sourcing page can sit beside the source packet as an internal site reference. It does not add facts to an individual buyer product brief.
Keep OEM product design development tooling material and component sources separate
An OEM-manufacturing reference may be an image, message phrase or attachment. A buyer reference may arrive in a different file. Product, design, development, tooling, material and component sources may also arrive separately. Each needs its own label and source location.
Labels such as OEM-01, BUY-01, PRD-01, DSN-01, DEV-01, TOL-01, MAT-01 and CMP-01 make the index readable. A visible connection can be recorded without interpretation. For example, DSN-01 linked to BPR-01 in message MSG-08 retains a stated message relationship. It does not decide a product, design, development, tooling, OEM manufacturing arrangement or commercial matter.
A source record should preserve vague material as vague. If an attachment has a file name but no readable source text, preserve its file location and state that the source text is not recorded.

The entry should remain close to the original material. An OEM phrase should stay an OEM-manufacturing reference. It should not become a manufacturing instruction. The same applies to a product, design, development or tooling source.
Preserve OEM manufacturing references without instruction
An OEM-manufacturing reference can preserve a phrase, file name, image, attachment or message location received. It may be linked to a buyer product brief when supplied material visibly makes that connection. It should not be turned into an arrangement, instruction, category or recommendation by the source index.
The NIST traceability framework material is manufacturing supply-chain traceability information. It describes a framework for organizing, linking and querying traceability data. Its limited role here is to distinguish records and visible links between them. It does not define OEM manufacturing, select an arrangement, evaluate a supplier, verify a record, determine data integrity, validate a product, inspect, test, accept, reject, certify, determine compliance or predict an outcome.
A record can therefore say OEM-01 linked to BPR-01 in email E-05 if the email visibly states that link. The same record cannot add a conclusion about the relationship, product development, tooling, price, quality, safety, compliance or commercial outcome.
Keep documents and destination sources separate
A document reference can retain a received document name, issuer shown and stated destination wording. A destination source can retain a page, message or file that names a destination. Neither is a buyer product brief, product, design, development, tooling or OEM manufacturing decision.

It does not decide OEM manufacturing, product, design, development, tooling, quality, safety, compliance or commercial meaning.
Unknown fields keep the source packet accurate. They prevent a later explanation from looking like original source material.
